Union Public Service Commission conducts Civil Services Examination2011 for recruitment to the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service and certain other Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ Central Services/ Posts
Age Limits: 21-30 Yrs as on 1st August 2011
Physical Standards : Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to Civil Services Examination, 2011 as per guidelines given in Appendix-III of Rules for Examination published in the Gazette of India Extraordinary dated 19th February, 2011.
Fee: (a) Candidates applying Online (exempting Female/SC/ST/PH Candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay a reduced fee of Rs. 50 (Rupees Fifty only) either by remitting the money in any Branch of SBI by Cash, or by using net banking facility of SBI or by using Visa/Master Credit/Debit Card. (b) Candidates applying Offline (through Common Application Form) are required to pay a fee of Rs. 100 (Rupees One Hundred only) through a single Central Recruitment Stamp. Central Recruitment Fee Stamp (NOT Postage Stamp) of the requisite denomination may be obtained from the Post Office and affixed on the application form in the space provided therein.
Company Profile :
* The first Commission at the provincial level was the Madras Service Commission established in 1930 under a 1929 Act of the Madras legislature. The Government of India Act, 1935 provided for the establishment of a Public Service Commission for each Province. Accordingly, under the 1935 Act seven Public Service Commissions were established in 1937; for the Provinces of Assam (at Shillong), Bengal (at Calcutta), Bombay and Sindh (at Bombay) Central Provinces, Bihar and Orissa (at Ranchi), Madras (at Madras), Punjab and North-West (at Lahore) and United Province (at Allahabad). All the 28 State Public Service Commissions including the successors of the older Provincial Public Service Commissions, participate in the National Conference. The list of 28 PSCs is at Annexure.
* Articles 315 to 321 of the Constitution of India govern the establishment and composition of the Commission as well as their consultative functions.
* Article 315 of the Constitution provides for separate Public Service Commission for the Union and States without any formal linkage between the two. In order to provide a forum for exchange of ideas and information in common areas of interest, Conference of Chairpersons of State Public Service Commissions are being held from time to time in association with UPSC. Chairman, UPSC is the ex-officio Chairman of the National Conference of Chairpersons of State PSCs..
How to Apply
Candidates may apply online/ offline. The duly filled in application form and the acknowledgement card should then be mailed in the special envelope supplied with the Information Brochure. The candidate should also write the name of examination viz. Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2011 on the envelope before dispatching it to Controller of Examinations, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi-110069. Last date for Online/ Offline Application submission: 21.03.2011. The candidates are strongly advised to apply Online.
Note: The application form with an Information Brochure containing general instructions for filling up the form, an acknowledgement card and an envelope for sending the application will be obtainable from the designated Head Post Offices/ Post Offices throughout the country as listed in Appendix-III of Notice against cash payment of Rs. 30
